Mother’s Day Wall Art

We all know that Mothers love flowers on Mothering Sunday, but how about flowers she can keep forever?

With Mother’s Day just over 2 weeks away I thought I’d (finally!) get around to writing up this tutorial for my mini crochet flower wall art!

This is a miniature size of the large Blooming’ Marvellous wall art that I designed for Crochet Now last year. This is a lovely quick project, and uses up any leftover yarns and fabric off cuts you might have hanging about!

It’s the perfect Mothers’ Day gift to brighten up a dull corner or to add to an eclectic collage-wall.

You will need:

1 embroidery hoop (coloured hoops look effective) size approx 10cm Minerva Crafts sell some

Scrap fabric (that is bigger than hoop by 2cm all round)

Two colours of yarn for x2 flowers.

Green yarn for x3 leaves.

Fabric glue.

Ribbon so you can hang up the finished hoop.

Start by fitting the fabric into your embroidery hoop and secure tight with the screw

6-petal flower: (make 2 in contrasting colours)

chain 6, join with sl st in 1st ch to form ring

Rnd 1: Working into ring, 2 ch, (counts as 1st dc), 11 dc, sl st to top of beg 2-ch to join. (12dc)

Rnd 2: 4 ch (counts as 1st dc and 3 ch), miss next dc, *1dc, 3 ch, miss next dc, rep from * to end, join with sl st in first ch of beg 4-ch. (6 x 3-ch sps)

Rnd 3: *1 dc, 6 tr, 1 dc into next 3-ch sp, rep from * to end, sl st into 1st dc to join. Fasten off.

Leaf: (make 3)

chain 12, starting in 2nd ch from hook, 1 sl st, 1 dc, 2 htr, 3 tr, 2 htr, 1 dc, 1 sl st, 1 ch, turn, work into other side of foundation ch, miss 1 ch, 1 dc, 2 htr, 3 tr, 2 htr, 1 dc, 1 sl st, sl st to beg sl st to join. Fasten off.

Arrange flowers and leaves as desired and, using fabric glue, glue into position and let dry overnight.

Use ribbon if desired to hang.

And that’s it! Super sweet and simple!
