Mandala CAL – July

Welcome to July’s instalment of the Love and Loop Mandala CAL!

Have you ever tried Jacob’s Ladder stitch? When I was designing this month’s mandala I really wanted something that yelled ‘seaside!’ or ‘beach!’ and it was when I was playing around with the Jacob’s Ladder stitch that I found it was perfect for creating this star-fish effect! I hope that you enjoy crocheting it!

Before working the final round (rnd 9) you need to link up the chains to create the ‘Jacob’s Ladder’. Its is like working a chain stitch but you can use your fingers; pull up one of the 7 ch-sps from rnd 4 (pink colour) under and then over the 7 ch -sp from round 3 (white) then pull up the 8 ch-sp from round 5 (beige) under and over the chain from round 4 – linking the chains in this way until you get to the top – repeat around the mandala.

Rnd 9; Join B to any right st of a 14 tr set from rnd 8; 3 ch (counts as first tr) 1 tr more into same st, 12 tr, 2 tr, sl st through top of final chain pulled through, cont with *2 tr in next, 12 tr, 2 tr in next, sl st through top of final chain pulled through, rep from * to end, sl st into top of beg 3 ch to join. Fasten off B.

Sew in ends and block – this mandala in particular would benefit with a little block to relax the stitches a little.
